Greg Hogan (acting chairman) called the meeting to order at 7:08 PM.
GENERAL INFORMATION;
Newspaper recycling is going well, this requires no effort on the troop’s part and additional newspaper collections will increase our income. Please no plastic bags. The amount of other trash has increased, this just penalizes the Troop as to the amount of money we collect.
A flyer to advertise the newspaper recycling has been developed, duplicated and is available for distribution in the general neighborhood. The number to call when the recycle bin is full is 770 424 6397, (after hours leave a message)
Web site is up and running, check out www.bsatroop1.net . All types of information is available for the troop at this site and it will be kept more current than a monthly newsletter/meeting minutes can be. Items such as calendar of events for the troop and also the Covered Bridge District with merit badge clinics, etc;.
PARENTS NOTE: This site is your best way to keep abreast of the schedule and needs of your scout.
OTHER BUSINESS AND SCOUTING ACTIVITIES;
David Mackay make the motion to approve the minutes of the October 2011 Scout committee meeting.
Mathew Hamilton made a report on his Eagle Scout project; he collected over $100 dollars on the car wash that the Troop had for his project, and Denise Settle reported as to having other contributions for his project. He also needs two merit badges for Eagle; Citizenship and Environmental Life. He is expecting to purchase materials for the display cabinets soon after Christmas and start having work sessions with fellow scouts.
Sam Hogan reported on his Eagle project;
Sam’s project is to assist the Kennesaw Mountain Park in a fence project, to route visitors to the park around an area in the park that the rangers desire to return to natural growth. It will require installation of some 350 feet of rail fencing along an area that visitors tend to take a short cut across leaving paths where the park would desire to return to unhindered natural growth. Sam is preparing his presentation to take to the Covered Bridge Council for Eagle project approval.
The Scout Troop had a recent outing by going bowling, varied success was achieved.
The Troop also sold popcorn and there is some available packages after case boxes were opened. Charlie, Gus, Joseph, and Wesley sold popcorn.
Denise made the motion for the Troop to donate some of the excess popcorn to the Cobb-Douglas Community Services Board, motion seconded by David. Motion passed.
New activities;
Walter Brown made his farewell from Troop One as they moved to Texas by passing his Board for First Class Scout, congratulations.
Food sorting this Saturday for charity; Permission slip that was in recent e-mail is required to be signed by parent or guardian.
Greg Hogan made the motion that a bowling and pizza party be the usual holiday party. Motion seconded and passed (stay tuned).
Scoutmaster Greg H. is considering have a camping trip the weekend of December 2, (tuned).
Denise Settle made the motion that the Troop make a monetary donation to the Cobb-Douglas County Services Board. Motion seconded by David Mackey and approved.
It was also noted that scouts should have at least one parent attend some Troop meetings, so that the parents get to know the leaders, other scouts and what is expected of the scouts.
YOUTH PROTECTION training is required of all adults participating in Scout Activities.
OTHER ACTIVITIES;
The Atlanta Area Scout Council has assigned a new Scout Executive for the Covered Bridge District.

In line with the Troop’s encouragement of advancement for the scouts, the following leaders have qualified or working on qualification to be Merit Badge Counselors;
Keith Mikulka, plumbing; Melissa Mikulka, music, Greg Hogan, public speaking, Mike Nagle, auto mechanics, and Steve Pattillo Salesmanship.
No Troop One Scout Committee meeting will be held in December 2011.
A motion was made by Greg Settle to adjourn the meeting at; 8:12 PM. Motion seconded and approved.
